Survey Results

We would like to start off this post by thanking all the people who participated in our survey. We only got 5 responses so far, however, the diversity of nationalities was impressing and helped us a lot to understand how people from all over the world look at discrimination.

Firstly, all the people agreed that the meaning of discrimination is to treat people of another race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, etc. differently, and usually unfairly. We were surprised to find out that no one responded "I don't know", since the youngest respondent was actually 13 years old. It was good to know that young people are aware of the situation.

No one has discriminated against anyone and most didn't experience discrimination themselves except for one person who was a foreigner living in Japan. The respondent said that he was searching for an apartment and was not allowed to even look at some properties because he was not Japanese. That proved to us that maybe discrimination in Japan is not that common, but still exists without everyone noticing on a daily basis.

More than 80% of the people answered that they have friends who are from a different nationality, religion etc. and the rest said that they wouldn't mind having some. With immigration being more common and social media being something that everyone uses, somehow we expected these results. We assume that some people may have online friends through twitter or facebook, considering the young age of most respondents.

Lastly, we asked the top factors that cause discrimination, and "Family views" ranked number one. As we answered on a previous post about wether people are born racist or not, we came to a conclusion that people are aware that parents or relatives can affect the children's way of looking at others.

Over all, it was interesting to see that most of our predictions were not absurd at all. Again, thank you for your cooperation!
